Adam Whitney Hayes[3] is a gay teenager who suffers from depression and is in the same class as Caleb. When Caleb tells Dr. Bright that Adam's sadness blocks out other people's emotions from his empathy, Dr. Bright encourages Caleb to get to know Adam. The two become friends, and over time Caleb begins to feel romantically attracted to Adam and senses that Adam feels the same for him. They begin dating after Caleb reveals his powers to Adam. Adam's parents are neurosurgeons.
